Fun Basketball

I've been able to attend quite a few basketball sessions over the past semester and my skills in basketball has definitely improved. I've become much more confident with my shooting and I'm also able to successfully make lay-ups during the play.

We've been playing in different teams allowing us to collaborate and work together as a team. Below are a few pictures that were taken during the early stages of Fun Basketball (credit to Laurens).

Action: Badminton

For the action aspect of CAS, I was attending the SAISA Badminton training. I believe that i've come a long way from when I first started playing Fun Badminton during the first semester.

For example, my smashing and lobbing skills have greatly improved than what it was when I first started and I'm able to smash the majority of the shots that have an opportunity to be smashed.

Overall, I believe that I have benefited greatly from this experience since I was able to undertake new challenges by playing against various levels of players participating in SAISA and also develop new skills by learning different techniques such as performing a successful drop shot, etc.

Action: Gym

For action, I have been visiting the Gym once every week on saturday. So far, I have gone to the gym 4 times in the past 4 weeks and have spent a total of 5 hours there.

I normally spend about 20-25 minutes on the treadmill which I found to be very helpful since it helps build my overall stamina while running. I started off slow but the amount I run every week is increasing. One the first week I ran a total of about 1.5km and on the second week, I ran about 2.3km with the speed being significantly faster than what it was on the first week. Since its only 2 weeks, its hard to say whether my stamina has improved greatly over this time since its too early, but I'm hoping that it would as I run greater distances in greater speeds.

After going on the treadmill, I normally move on to use the other equipment in the Gym such as bench press, dumb bells, etc.

Here are some pictures that I was able to take in the Gym:

(4th Week)

The number of sets i've been doing is increasing and the weights are also rising. For example, I initially started off with doing 3 sets of eight on the first week, then on the second week it increased to 2 sets of 8 and 1 set of 10, then on the third and fourth week, we increased it to 3 sets of 10. By doing this, we planned and initiated activities.

I developed many new skills by going to the gym. For example, when I started out, the way I used the equipment was not right, and my supervisor was able to correct me and show me the correct way to operate the gym equipment.

Overall, I feel that going to the Gym has helped me a lot since I was learning new techniques and developed my physically and mentally by not giving up and always doing that extra push-up.

Action: Badminton

I have been going for badminton practice every week for the past 3 weeks. My skills in badminton haven't been pretty mediocre, but I feel that after playing it every week, my skills have been improving.

I've developed new skills, for example; initially my skill in smashing wasn't that good, but on the 3rd week, i've been able to smash the shuttle more frequently.

My collaboration skills have been improving too, since I've been playing with partners quite a few times. By doing this we were able to decide about which position each one of us would play and also understanding who would hit the shuttle when it comes close to them.

I've often found that my aim when hitting the shuttle wasn't that good but through practice, I can say that it has improved.  The student leader, Laurens was able to show me the way to deflect smashes from other opponents which I feel has helped me a long way because I no longer stand there smiling when someone smashes the shuttle at me but I am able to serve it back.

Here's a picture of me along with Yoon Jae at the end of a match.

I hope to further develop my badminton skills throughout this year and next year in order for me to be able to try out for the SAISA Badminton team.
